In this episode of spare change we talk about the things you need to know about coin collecting (Silver and gold coins too). We go over what type of American coins are out there to collect, what coin is worth what and how to avoid the scams when collecting In this series we will also talk about other coins around the world.
I have a question? If you exchange money for silver money and take the face value don’t you realize a loss if so then would a Business realize a profit of a loss in face value.

Shut up douche I use the same books as he does and no one has put me down over it. Only a rich puke would spend $30.00 bucks on an album for pennies.

This is a reasonably good primer for a new coin collector. This video includes information on coin handling, historical facts and coin grading. Mark talks about three good coin grading services, PCGS, ICG, and NGC. We’ve also found that ANACS (formerly part of American Numismatics Association) to be quite good. His comment about “basement grading companies” are spot on.

Awesome new series. I didn’t really take the time to watch these when they first came out but I’m going to catch up on them now.
@David4everling Are you okay? gold777silver clearly noted that Coin World found that ACCGS clearly noted that some coins were cleaned, whereas PCGS and NGC didn’t catch the cleaned ones. How that translates to ACCGS “obviously sucks” defies not only logic, but basic language. One doesn’t have to think very deeply to know that exposure produces popularity. Since PCGS spends millions of dollars on advertising and ACCGS, owned by the Beverly Hills Coin Club, spends ZERO on self-promotion.
@markapsolon Coin World’s investigation of 7 leading grading services was very extensive & contradicts your findings. In not one single case did the “big 3″ agree with each other & in many cases, were as much as 7 points off. In most samples, Coin World found ACCGS was more conservative than PCGS & ACCGS correctly noted a few coins had been “cleaned” which were overlooked by PCGS & NGC. Not surprising, since PCGS graded many shipwreck gold coins without noting they had been in acid baths.
@gold777silver well then obviously “accgs” sucks at grading. I’d rather go with the majority. Because anacs pcgs and apmex are at the top for a reason.
@markapsolon I don’t endorse any grading services, but I know bias when I see it, either that or it? appears you didn’t read the Coin World article either. Coin World clearly stated that ACCGS was more “conservative” – your primary criteria. ACCGS graded a coin as AU that PCGS graded as “MS 63″. Further, ACCGS graded a coin as “cleaned” whereas NGC, ANACS & PCGS didn’t, which the big 3 did the same thing with the Central American gold coins – all were heavily cleaned, but NOT noted on the slabs.
@markapsolon Apparently you didn’t read the Wikipedia article nor fully grasp what LiesandTruthDetector posted. – He clearly said ALL grading services were off. Also, the “big three” are being cleverly counterfeited because they realize that some collectors such as yourself seem to prioritize blind faith in them. Counterfeit coins are showing up in authentic holders – Nine of the same counterfeit 1796 Quarters, each with the exact same flaws, have shown up in PCGS, NGC and ANACS slabs.
@LiesAndTruthDetector – It’s not surprising that with this video’s sweeping generalizations, that it’s gotten 15 thumbs down already.

hey im 12 years old and i have been collecting coins paper money stamps comics for the last 2 years and i have a good amount of them come look at them now in my videos.you should like them
@LiesAndTruthDetector – No one is perfect but I don’t trust them as I’ve seen them slab fakes as well as return coins that are different than the one sent.
PCGS: I use for silver coins.(Morgan,Peace etc.)
NGC: I Use For Gold Coins. (Any Gold Coins I Have)
Anacs: I use For World Coins.(Polish Coins, Russian Coins etc.)
ICCS: I use For Canadian Coins.
CCCS: Mint Errors
